# FAQ about BareMetal

## What should I do if the server KVM console does not respond to actions taken via the management console? {#kvm}

Restart the BMC: 

1. In the [management console](https://console.yandex.cloud), select **BareMetal** and the relevant server.
1. In the left-hand menu, select **KVM console**.
1. In the console window, click **Reset BMC**.

If restarting the BMC did not help, contact [support](https://center.yandex.cloud/support).

## What should I do if there is a disk failure on the server? {#add-to-raid}

If there is a disk failure on the server, contact support and request a replacement. If the defective disk was a part of a RAID array, you need to add the new disk to this array.

## Can I copy text from a local machine to the KVM console?

Yes. In the top-right part of the KVM console window, paste the text into the `Paste text here` field. The text will appear immediately in the server command line.

## What is a gigabit per second (Gbps)? {#Gbps}

Gigabit per second (Gbps) is a unit of measurement for data transmission speed. It describes the throughput of a network interface and represents the number of gigabits of data that can be transmitted through the network interface in one second.

## What is a gigabyte per second (GB/s)? {#Gbs}

Gigabyte per second (GB/s) is a unit of measurement for data transmission speed. It represents the number of gigabytes of data that can be transmitted in one second. Typically, one gigabyte (GB/s) equals eight gigabits (Gbps).

## How to calculate the amount of data transmitted over a server's network connection? {#calculate-amount-of-data}

To calculate this, you can use this formula:

```text
Amount of data transmitted per day = number of seconds in a day * speed (in GB/s)
```

Calculation examples:

| Amount of data transmitted per day | Bandwidth in Gbps | Bandwidth in GB/s | Calculation example           |
|------------------------------------|-------------------|-----------------|--------------------------|
| ~10 TB                             | 1                 | 0.125           | 86,400 * 0.125 = 10,800 GB |
| ~100 TB                            | 10                | 1.25            | 86,400 * 1.25 = 108,000 GB |

## How do I get the logs of my activity in the services? {#logs}

## Network {#network}

### What should I check in case of network issues? {#network-troubleshooting}

If your BareMetal server is experiencing network issues, check the following:

1. Make sure the network interfaces have IP addresses assigned:

   ```bash
   ip address
   ```

   If using DHCP IP address assignment, make sure DHCP is enabled. For details on setting up DHCP, see [DHCP in a Yandex BareMetal network](../concepts/dhcp.md).

1. Check the route table:

   ```bash
   ip route
   ```

   Private subnets must be routed to the `10.0.0.0/8`, `172.16.0.0/12`, and `192.168.0.0/16` networks. For more information, see [Server routing table](../concepts/network.md#routing-table).

1. Check the default gateway availability:

   ```bash
   ping <gateway_address>
   ```

1. Check the MAC address limit: make sure the number of MAC addresses on the server does not exceed it. For more information, see [MAC addresses](../concepts/network-restrictions.md#mac-addresses).

If DHCP is disabled, check the OS configuration files to make sure the static IP addresses and routes are configured correctly.

### What information should I submit to support when reporting network issues? {#network-diagnostics}

Before submitting a request to [support](https://center.yandex.cloud/support), gather the following diagnostic information:

1. Command output:

   ```bash
   ip address
   ```

1. Command output:

   ```bash
   ip route
   ```

1. Contents of the configuration files located in the `/etc/netplan/` directory (if any).

1. If you have issues with access to specific resources, provide this command’s output:

   ```bash
   mtr -n <resource_address>
   ```
