# Platforms


Yandex Compute Cloud provides various types of physical processors. Choosing a platform guarantees the type of physical processor in the data center and determines the supported vCPU and RAM configurations. You can also add a graphics accelerator ([GPU](gpus.md)) to a VM. You need to choose a platform each time you create a new VM.

The `ru-central1-d` and `ru-central1-e` [availability zones](../../overview/concepts/geo-scope.md) do not support VM instances on certain Compute Cloud platforms. For more information, see [Limitations](#restrictions).

^1^ `amd-v1` is available to a limited number of users for private testing at the [Preview](../../overview/concepts/launch-stages.md) stage and is not free of charge. To request access to the platform, contact your account manager.

* VMs with over 256 vCPUs will run correctly only on operating systems with Linux kernel version 5.15 or higher. 

* For Windows-based VMs, the maximum number of vCPUs is 224.

To migrate a VM with a non-supported platform from the `ru-central1-d` or `ru-central1-e` zone, do one of the following:
* [Take](../operations/disk-control/create-snapshot.md) a disk snapshot and use it to [create](../operations/vm-create/create-from-snapshots.md) a new VM in the `ru-central1-d` or `ru-central1-e` zone on a different platform.
* [Stop](../operations/vm-control/vm-stop-and-start.md#stop) the VM, [change](../operations/vm-control/vm-update-resources.md#update-vcpu-ram) the platform, and [move](../operations/vm-control/vm-change-zone.md#relocate-command) the VM by running [yc compute instance relocate](../cli-ref/instance/relocate.md).
