# Adding an access error message in Yandex DataLens

To add a dashboard [access error message](../../dashboard/settings.md#message-settings):

{% note warning %}

If you use the new DataLens object model with [workbooks and collections](../../workbooks-collections/index.md):

1. In the left-hand panel, select ![collections](../../../_assets/console-icons/rectangles-4.svg) **Collections and workbooks**.
1. Open the workbook you need and select an object.

Proceed with this guide from Step 2.

{% endnote %}

1. In the left-hand panel, click ![image](../../../_assets/console-icons/layout-cells-large.svg) **Dashboards** and select the dashboard you need. If you do not have a dashboard, [create one](create.md).
1. In the top-right corner, click **Edit**.

1. Click ![image](../../../_assets/console-icons/gear.svg) at the top of the screen. The settings window will open on the right.
1. In the **Other settings** section, next to the **Access error message** field, click ![image](../../../_assets/console-icons/pencil.svg).

1. Enter the message text and click **Save**.

   {% note info %}

   This field supports the [Markdown](../../dashboard/markdown.md) markup language.

   {% endnote %}

1. In the top-right corner, click **Save**.

Now, if the user has no dashboard view permission, they will see this saved message.

{% note info %}

To view access permissions for a dashboard with the access error message enabled, users need the [Write](../../security/manage-access.md#permission-write) or [Admin](../../security/manage-access.md#permission-admin) permissions for this dashboard.

Users with the [Read](../../security/manage-access.md#permission-read) permission cannot view the list of access permissions for this dashboard or request changing access to it via the DataLens interface.

{% endnote %}

To delete a message for a permission request, save an empty message in the **Access error message** window.
