# Workbooks and collections

### Do I have to switch to workbooks? {#switch-to-workbooks}

Yes. Eventually, all navigation inside DataLens will be switched from folders to [workbooks](../workbooks-collections/index.md), so we recommend that you:

* Create new objects in workbooks.
* [Migrate](../workbooks-collections/migrations.md) your existing objects to workbooks.

### How will access permissions be migrated? {#permissions-transfer}

Right after the migration, you will become the sole [workbook](../workbooks-collections/index.md) administrator and will be able to assign [permissions](../workbooks-collections/workbooks-operations.md#security) to other users and user groups.

### How does DataLens find linked objects during migration? {#related-objects-migration}

Link search depends on the selected type of [migration](../workbooks-collections/migrations.md):

* During migration [by transfer](../workbooks-collections/migrations.md#migration-transfer), DataLens finds linked objects recursively across all links. Therefore, you can start migration from any object, e.g., from a dashboard. DataLens will find all linked charts, datasets, and connections. Then it will search for the links of the objects it found. Finally, it will prompt you to put all the objects it found into a single [workbook](../workbooks-collections/index.md).
* During migration [by copying](../workbooks-collections/migrations.md#migration-copy), DataLens searches for linked objects down the [hierarchy](../concepts/index.md#component-interrelation). You can start copying from any object. The object's original copy remains in the directory. DataLens will prompt you to put its copy and copies of all found objects in a single workbook.

### I used a single connection for multiple dashboards. DataLens prompts to place all of them in the same workbook. How can I get a separate workbook for each dashboard? {#workbook-for-dashboard}

We recommend placing objects in different [workbooks](../workbooks-collections/index.md) if you have different [access permissions](../workbooks-collections/workbooks-operations.md#security) for them.

To get a separate workbook for each dashboard, use one of the following methods:

* First, [copy](../workbooks-collections/migrations.md#migration-copy) all the dashboards from different workbooks. Then, remove the original objects from the folder structure.
* First, migrate all objects to a single workbook. Then, [create copies of the workbook](../workbooks-collections/migrations.md#copy-workbook) and delete the objects you do not need from each copy, only leaving the ones required for the relevant dashboard.
