# Stopping a workflow execution

If you stop a [workflow](../../../concepts/workflows/workflow.md) execution, Workflows will first wait for the current active step to complete. Follow this guide to interrupt the step that is currently active: [Terminating a workflow execution](terminate.md).

- Management console {#console}

  1. In the [management console](https://console.yandex.cloud), navigate to the folder where the [workflow execution](start.md) is in progress.
  1. Navigate to **Serverless Integrations**.
  1. In the left-hand panel, click ![image](../../../../_assets/console-icons/graph-node.svg) **Workflows** and select a workflow.
  1. In the left-hand panel, click ![image](../../../../_assets/console-icons/bars-play.svg) **Executions**.
  1. Next to the execution, click ![image](../../../../_assets/console-icons/ellipsis.svg) and select ![image](../../../../_assets/console-icons/circle-stop.svg) **Stop**.

- CLI {#cli}

  If you do not have the Yandex Cloud CLI yet, [install and initialize it](../../../../cli/quickstart.md#install).

  The folder used by default is the one specified when [creating](../../../../cli/operations/profile/profile-create.md) the CLI profile. To change the default folder, use the `yc config set folder-id <folder_ID>` command. You can also specify a different folder for any command using `--folder-name` or `--folder-id`. If you access a resource by its name, the search will be limited to the default folder. If you access a resource by its ID, the search will be global, i.e., through all folders based on access permissions.

  1. See the description of the CLI command to stop a workflow execution:

      ```bash
      yc serverless workflow execution stop --help
      ```

  1. Specify a workflow ID to get a list of workflow executions:
     
     ```bash
     yc serverless workflow execution list --workflow-id <workflow_ID>
     ```
     
     Result:
     
     ```text
     executions:
       - id: dfq...e78
         workflow_id: dfqud9cbc4k5********
         status: FINISHED
         started_at: "2025-03-10T15:54:44.304781814Z"
         duration: 1.070697344s
       ...
       - id: dfq...4d5
         workflow_id: dfqud9cbc4k5********
         status: FINISHED
         started_at: "2025-03-10T15:05:19.982768956Z"
         duration: 0.971907165s
     ```
  1. Stop a workflow execution:

      ```bash
      yc serverless workflow execution stop <workflow_execution_ID>
      ```

      Result:

      ```text
      execution_id: dfqmeu8ci1ae2tvocsbv-429e9f6f-b506-4c5a-84b2-9abb********
      ```

  To stop a workflow execution, use the [stop](../../../workflows/api-ref/Execution/stop.md) REST API method for the [Execution](../../../workflows/api-ref/Execution/index.md) resource or the [ExecutionService/Stop](../../../workflows/api-ref/grpc/Execution/stop.md) gRPC API call.
