# How grants and promo codes work in Yandex Cloud Billing


## Issue description {#case-description}

You need to apply a grant or promo code to your billing account with arrears.

## Solution {#case-resolution}

Grants and promo codes do not change your account balance.

You cannot use [grants](../../../billing/concepts/bonus-account.md) and promo codes to top up your [account](../../../billing/concepts/personal-account.md) or pay the arrears on your account.

Before applying a grant or promo code, [top up your account](../../../billing/operations/pay-the-bill.md) to pay the arrears.

If you cannot apply a promo code to an account with a positive balance, [create a support ticket](https://center.yandex.cloud/support). Provide the following information in your ticket:

1. Billing account ID. You can find it on the [page with the billing account details](https://center.yandex.cloud/billing/accounts).
1. Issue description.
